Export 3D site from Dialux Evo

Dialux 4.12 has an option to export the 3D models into an .m3d or .sat file but looks like this function is missing from Evo... or not?

There is a way to export the objects and models from Dialux Evo, moreover you can export the whole scene into a convertible 3D format as you can see on the following images. This project was created in Dialux and the first image raytraced with Evo. The second image is the same site but rendered with Indigo render (free version) in SketchUp 2014.

Dialux Evo Export tool

The last release of Dialux Evo - Dialux Evo 5 - has an improved dwg export tool which gives us the opportunity to export objects, models from Dialux to widely used AutoCad format.

The improved tool exports the luminaires and furnitures, objects as blocks into the .dwg file.

When exporting from Dialux Evo to .dwg file, the process always exports the current view. When export menu Drawings tab is active you can chose bewteen two view modes: 3D rendering or floorplan view

If you have active floorplan view you will have the top view exported with 2D blocks, without any additional and annoying triangles within the object contours. (except complex luminaire models and furnitures like models in .3ds or .sat files)

You can export single room, single storey or the building and even the whole site, depending on which tab is active.

In 3D rendering view the export tool transfers the whole 3D geometry into the .dwg file including site, building rooms, furnitures, luminaires, depending on which view is active. Therfore the trick is very simple. You have to export the site, building, storey, or room in 3D rendering view and you have the exported scene.

When you have the 3D scene or model in a .dwg file you only need a software which can read and convert it to any popular 3D file format. I am frequently using SketchUp so I know that the purchased - or trial - version has an option to import .dwg files.

Sketchup 2014 had 8 working hours trial period in unlimited time, while you can use full features of the software. Sketchup 2015 has only 30 days free trial.

The export tool of Dialux Evo exports only the geometry without any additional information, therefore the imported scene in SketchUp will appear without textures and materials. The luminaires will be imported as simple object, without photometry.

It means you have to set textures and materials again, and add photometrics to luminaire's surfaces manually. However there are number of useful 3D file formats which can be exported, including including 3DS, IFC, FBX, OBJ, XSI, and VRML.

with professional raytrace or render softwares you can use improved material settings and create realistic rendered images as well.
